A landscape park — and a shower on site

Szumilas sits in Bydgoszcz, in the Vistula Landscape Park, among trees, water and a glade. This is not a festival field into which you truck toilets and a generator. The infrastructure is worked into the nature: rooms to sleep, bathrooms, showers. Guests can actually rest, not merely get through the wedding and hunt for a hotel at two in the morning.

You put children to bed by the building, not in the car between the cake and the first dance. There is a play room, and if you ask — a quieter space so little ones can step away from the floor. Nature does not mean giving up comfort. It means comfort does not pretend to be downtown.

The vows here, not three villages away

By the pond, water and reeds take the frame: light bounces off the surface, wind comes in from the side, and a structure should not block what you came here for. Under the oak there is shade at noon and a canopy in the photographs; an aisle, petals and chairs in the grass mean guests remember the vows under the boughs, not under a curtain rail. On the glade there is more sky and more air between people, and the forest stands behind them like a wall nobody had to paint.

A place that is alive — and dogs, if you want them

Nature is a guest of honour here, not a flower in a vase. The light changes every hour, wind moves the leaves while someone gives a toast, and the sky sits in the water. After dusk, deckchairs and lanterns do what stage lighting does in a hall. The party has a different rhythm: less fake, more remembered, because the place is not switched off from the time of day.

That is why the atmosphere does not copy itself. The same tent at five and at eleven is two different rooms. In winter you see your breath; in summer the grass holds the heat into the night.

A kitchen on site, not a hot-box

There is a fully equipped kitchen annex. Dishes are cooked here, fresh: food does not travel an hour in a crate and get reheated to a temperature at which “you will eat it somehow”. The difference is concrete. The couple smell the kitchen, not a corridor; soup is hot when it should be hot; the menu can still be adjusted because the kitchen is here, not in another county.
